This amazing little netbook can turn into a very cool looking picture frame. Litl, a startup company based in Boston, has expelled a laptop that can be used either as a regular netbook, or you can flip it so that I can stand up similarly to an easel. The netbook, called a Webbook, is a device equipped with a 12’’ screen and a pivoting hinge that can change how the netbook is positioned and looks. If you twist it, it can either look like a picture frame or a traditional laptop. The manufacturers, Litl, have said that when the Webbook has its screen bare, it is awesome for passive activities such as playing music or displaying photos, watching the news or programs, or even browsing extensive web content.

In terms of innards, the Webbook doesn’t really have the rights to brag. It comes with a 1.6 Ghz processor, 1 gigabyte of RAM, a 2 gigabyte flash memory card, a camera, and Wi-Fi connectivity, with a USB port, 2 infrared ports, & an HDMI port. It’s obviously intended to be used as a cloud computer because it sure can’t store much on it. Mostly all you can do is mess around online and store a few photos or mp3s.

The company assures us that the Webbook will also be able to come with channels/feeds from popular websites such as Shutterly, Facebook, Flickr, and The Weather Channel. It’s a cute idea, but it’s a bit expensive for a cute idea with not a lot to brag about. At 700 bucks (with the optional remote for an additional 20 bucks) I personally just don’t feel that it has the goods to back up the price. Perhaps rigging up a nice desktop theatre would be a much more attractive alternative.

According to Geek.com, Acer’s newest laptop (Acer Aspire 5738PG) gives you 3D the palpable way. It isn’t simply a machine for gamers; it’s as three dimensional as any Imax movie. Acer brings us its 3D capable Aspire, with the 57E8PG that uses LCD technology, some specialized polarized screen coatings, a bit of conversion software, and those ever-silly 3D glasses we all remember so well from our childhoods.
The special 3D film holds to the screen from pixel to pixel, making it possible for the LCD to deliver a positive 3D feast. The name of the software is TriDef 3D Experience. The name does not only promise to have the highest definition, but the most extreme dimension.

Just think about what Left 4 Dead or WoW would be like on a 3D capable laptop. By bringing your favorite games and movies to life, you get to experience your computer in 3D and share what it’s like with your family and friends. Already great games are made better, and already wonderful movies truly made a part of your home.

While this is not a necessary part of gaming or movie-watching, it would definitely add to the experience in a positive way.

It’s been long since the rumour of Apple Tablet was out in the market; for the consumers who cannot wait any longer to get touchy-feely with their laptops’ screens, KCI communications has a better and immediate solution as the Duo turns 17 inches laptops and monitors into a tablet. There is a small device acting as a “base station” that is clipped on to the top of the monitor and it continuously receives or picks up inputs from users with the Duo pen. The technology can be explained as follows: As the ultrasonic and infrared waves are reflected from the base stations, the amount of time taken is noted and pen’s coordinates are calculated.

The pen can be used to navigate through the desktop and enables the user to write directly on the screen in eight different languages; user can also mark PowerPoint presentations, WebPages or documents with this pen. The most remarkable feature of this Duo pen is that it can convert into a ball point pen so that user can take notes on traditional paper and then watch them appear in the included software called Note Taker.

There are two similar devices called Cannon’s Papershow which is a dedicated paper-to-screen device for those professionals who want to conduct interactive PowerPoint presentations and another gadget called LiveScribe Smartpen, aimed for students; it links audio to written texts. But Duo stands apart by being the first device that captured ink and converted plain monitor into a touch screen.

A couple of issues are suspected from the device; While using a laptop, writing and tapping on the screen will cause it to sway and hence require the user to hold one side of the screen with available hand. This is not a disadvantage but doesn’t make for an ergonomic design. As the base station is powered by USB, it is likely to drain lot of battery life and this can be another issue.

Keeping these issued aside, the Duo is still priced at just $119.99 along with shipping costs and is the cheapest tablet PC available. It is identical to the readymade tablets save base station as it automatically synchronizes Windows 7 tablet software and Windows Vista. The Duo will soon be working with 22-inches monitors and will be available for Macs by November.

In the crowded world of ultraportable and super slim notebooks, another notebook which has been hogging laptop news headlines over the past few weeks in the MSI X-Slim X600. This super slim ultra light notebook has been touted for big things in the days ahead and it would be interesting to see how it would compete against the likes of Dell Inspiron 14 which are priced on the same price level as the MSI X-Slim X600.

The X600 is undoubtedly the slimmest 15 inch notebook in the market , even smaller than the likes of Sony Viao NW series. The laptop weighs in a mere 4.8 pounds and is under an inch in thickness. However, one negative feature is lack of an internal DVD storage drive although MSI has added in an extra external DVD writer which sounds a little bit dodgy.

Despite its size, the laptop is power packed and comes in with a 1.4 Ghz Intel Dual Core processor and a whopping 4 GB of Ram. In addition, the laptop also has 500 GB of hard disk space which should fill up all your basic needs.

Another crowning feature of the laptop is the inclusion of rounder curves just like the Mac book Air which makes it a sight to behold. This ultraportable laptop is available in two colours black and silver, although the silver one does look much better and is resistant to scratches.

When it comes to performance, the MSI X-Slim blazes ahead with some superlative scores. Even under continuous Wi-Fi, usage the laptop provided 4.1 hours of continuous battery backup which is a 20% increase over its rivals, the Sony NW series.

Even other tests such as frame tests and file transfer speeds saw it surge ahead of its competition making it a viable choice for those looking for a slimmer laptop on their travels.

At $799, this 15 inch beauty does not come cheap and goes head on with other Dell Inspiron models in the market. What remains to be seen is how far the ultraportable market would accept this given the demand for 10 inch laptops in a budget conscious market.

The latest buzz which has attracted most laptop news headlines over the past few months has been the absolute craze over mini and ultraportable laptops. With most laptop big shots falling in for this revolution over the last quarter, it was only a matter of time before Dell came out with something spectacular and in the Dell Inspiron Miniv10, the might just have hit the right chords.

The ultraportable laptop market is without a shadow of a doubt, the most ruthless sector around with price margins of $25 enough to make a difference in the long run. However, keeping up with its motto of quality with competitive price, Dell Inspiron Miniv10 is bound to make a difference in a clogged market. Touted as the successor to the highly popular Inspiron Mini 10, the Mini10 comes with tonnes of additional features such as a TV tuner card and selectable colors. Dell has been on the forte in providing customisable laptop colors and designs and that should never been an issue with the Dell Miniv10.
The Dell Miniv10 comes with a 160 GB hard-disk and free 2GB online storage space which is more than enough for a budget conscious user. The CPU consists of 1 GB RAM and Intel Atom Processors which fill in most demands for portability. Unlike many other variants in the markets such as HCL and Lenovo, the Miniv10 actually provides a pleasant typing experience given the fact that the keyboard is 92% of the standard Inspiron keyboard.

Overall , the PC weighs in at 1.2 Kilos which is just about ideal for a laptop that is meant for the ultraportable and budget conscious user. Couple with Dell’s legendary customer service, the Inspiron Miniv10 is bound to make heads turn and may turn out to be a fine investment in the long run.
